The next generation of the Wood Brothers Racing NASCAR family is taking control. Ownership and operating duties have changed hands once again. Eddie and Len Wood as well as Kim Wood Hall have passed things on to John, Keven, and Jordan.

Jon Wood is taking over as Team President of Wood Brothers Racing. Keven Wood and Jordan Wood Hicks are moving into co-ownership positions alongside their brother Jon. They are the third generation of the Wood family to assume operations of the NASCAR team.

Ever since 1950, Wood Brothers Racing has been synonymous with NASCAR. The two have seen the highs and lows of the sport together. Whether it was Glen Wood or Cale Yarborough or David Pearson or Ryan Blaney – the iconic No. 21 has always been.

“The way our family business has been structured forever is nobody really had titles,” Jon said about the team, via NASCAR.com. “We all just kind of chipped in and did what we’re good at individually, and as a collective, everything got done. There wasn’t really a structure of titles tied to any single one of us.”

No team in NASCAR has been around for as long as Wood Brothers Racing. Hopefully, with the new generation in charge, the tradition will continue. Jon Wood is a former two-time race winner in the Truck Series. This is a racing family through and through.

Of course, this new generation has one big goal in mind – get win 100 for the organization.

Harrison Burton earns first top-10 of the season for Wood Brothers Racing

Now, Wood Brothers Racing is not what it used to be. It’s such a small team and those small teams can’t really survive in this day and age. However, thanks to a strong partnership with Team Penske, the legacy has lived on in recent years.

Harrison Burton has been behind the wheel of the 21 car going on three years. During that time, he has had some bright spots. The 2022 Indy Road Course race being the brightest when he finished P3 on the day.

That 2022 rookie season had that top-5 finish and a top-10 from Atlanta to lean on. Burton didn’t really improve in 2023, though. He had two top-10 finishes again, Darlington and Pocono this time. Truthfully, 2024 hasn’t been great with only two finishes better than P27.

The good news is, Burton earned the first top-10 of the season for Wood Brothers Racing at Talladega last week. P10 on the day, Burton gave his team something to celebrate. Heading to Dover, the goal should be to get into the top-20 and see what he can do from there. If the results don’t start to match expectations, we could see another driver in the 21 next season.
