Las Vegas Raiders GM Has Blunt Thoughts On NFL Draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders concluded the 2023 season with a strong performance, yet recognize there’s still substantial work ahead. Competing in a division with two formidable teams, they are determined not to lag behind in the AFC West race.

Newly appointed GM Tom Telesco has acknowledged the team’s need for enhancement across the roster.

Prior to the 2024 NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday night, the Raiders’ general manager spoke out with blunt thoughts about his team’s needs.

“We could use a little bit of help everywhere. I don’t think any position is precluded from being drafted this year.”

This marks the third change in GM leadership within four years for the Raiders, a period during which success has been elusive, partly due to underperforming players or off-field issues.

As the Raiders prepare to make their selection at No. 13 in the upcoming draft, their primary concern lies at the quarterback position. With the departure of Jimmy Garoppolo, Gardner Minshew steps in as the starting quarterback. While Minshew is highly regarded as one of the league’s top backups, his track record suggests he may not be the ideal long-term solution as a starter.

However, the Raiders’ options for securing a potential franchise quarterback are somewhat limited. Prospects such as Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy are anticipated to be off the board by the time the Raiders are on the clock, with Bo Nix possibly following suit.

One potential option is Michael Penix Jr., who boasts impressive arm talent but has grappled with injuries throughout his college career.

Alternatively, the Las Vegas Raiders may opt for a “best player available” strategy if they remain unconvinced by the quarterback prospects available at their draft position.
